How THMED Staff Supports Childhood Cancer Research

How will we cure childhood cancer? One Cup at a Time!

In 2016, THMED partnered with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to make a difference for childhood cancer.  Alex’s Lemonade Days is an annual event, hosted the second weekend of June, in which thousands of supporters nationwide host lemonade stands to help fight childhood cancer. This event has raised more than $15 Million for pediatric cancer. THMED was honored to be a part of the national effort to help Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation host three successful events during the weekend of June 10 – 12.

Friday, June 10th: Raising Cane’s, located at 7955 N MacArthur Blvd, Irving, TX 75063, joined the team and contributed 15% of sales to the THMED ALSF Fundraiser for any customer who mentioned Lemonade Days when ordering.  THMED was able to spread the news to the community and other tenants in our corporate building raising a total of $139.14. The Raising Canes family was also fundamental in hosting the events during Lemonade Days, as they donated over 10 gallons of lemonade to THMED to use for lemonade stands.

3 Ways to Help Fund Childhood Cancer Research this Month

3 Ways to Help Fund Childhood Cancer Research this Month

THMED is partnering with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to raise awareness and funding for childhood cancer research. Our goal is raise $8,000 this year to fund a full month of research.

Every year, an estimated 250,000 new cases of cancer affect children under the age of 20 worldwide. That’s about 700 new kids affected every day. And yet, childhood cancer is vastly and consistently underfunded. Less than 5% of the federal government’s total funding for cancer research is dedicated to childhood cancers each year.

Kids with cancer don’t have time to wait. Your donation will go to research seeking lifesaving treatment. The money you give has the potential to make a huge difference for these kids and their families. Please join THMED in the fight to end childhood cancer!

We have three events coming up and we need YOUR HELP to make them great!

  1. Friday, June 10th (5PM-8PM)Our ALSF committee will be holding a lemonade stand at Kendra Scott at The Plaza at Preston Center in Dallas, TX. Kendra Scott has graciously volunteered to donate 20% of all profits from 5PM – 8PM to fight childhood cancer. If you are unable to attend but would like to make a purchase anyway, you may contact May Usman via email at May.Usman@medestar.com on how you can purchase without being present.
  2. Friday , June 10th ALL DAY  – Raising Cane’s located at 7955 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX will be donating 15% of the day’s profits to the THMED Fundraiser for any purchase made. Selling Lemons for a Good Cause

Selling Lemons for a Good Cause

Every year, an estimated 250,000 new cases of cancer affect children under the age of 20 worldwide. That’s about 700 new kids affected every day. THMED is partnering with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to make a difference for childhood cancer. Donate, share and/or spread the word to your friends and colleagues. Make every cup count, one cup at a time.

When Alex, who was diagnosed with childhood cancer just before her first birthday, was four, she told her parents she wanted to set up a front-yard lemonade stand. Her plan: to give the money to doctors to help them find a cure. Her first “Alex’s Lemonade Stand”, held with the help of her older brother Patrick, raised an astonishing $2,000 in one day. In 2004 when Alex passed away at the age of eight—her stand and inspiration had raised more than $1 million towards finding a cure for the disease that took her life. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation was started by her parents in 2005 to continue the work that Alex began.

The ALSF committee within THMED plans community outreach events for our employees and all donations are sent to the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.  Between March 14th and April 14th, THMED employees are selling paper lemons to raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Buy a lemon and write a note of gratitude to one of your co-workers, have your kids decorate it, or write an inspirational quote – the options are endless!  “We hope this is a cause we can all get behind, and there will be more opportunities throughout the year to support the Foundation,” says Korey Adams, Resources Director for THMED.

THMED Staff Helps Local Communities in Need

THMED Staff Helps Local Communities in Need

In December, THMED employees took a day to volunteer locally in their communities.

On #GivingTuesday, our Dallas office volunteered at the North Texas Food Bank.  The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) is a top-ranked nonprofit relief organization, providing access to more than 170,000 meals each day for hungry children, seniors and families. Throughout the month of December, we collected canned food in the office, and then spent a day sorting, boxing and bagging food at NTFB.

Our California office volunteered at the Orange County United Way assembling home essentials for families in need as they get back on their feet and move into their own homes. We sorted donations of home essential items and arranged them in baskets for each family.

Both events were a great experience and opportunity to give back to our communities. We hope to continue our efforts to support the North Texas Food Bank and Orange County United Way
